In Memoriam

This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.

In Memoriam — For SATB Choir

It took about 7 rehearsals and 100 emails, but I was able to premiere my biggest work yet with conductor Anthony Ferreira and rehearsal pianist Matt Levin on Jan. 28th, 2020! It wouldn’t have been possible without the love, support, and dedication to so many people and I am forever grateful.

"In Memoriam" was written in early 2019 to honor the passing of a friend as a way to process my grief. The text is what was going through my mind at the time as a sort of stream-of-consciousness to reflect how there is no solution or reason to the heartbreak. I remember talking with my friends during this hard time and one of them said, "There is no wrong way to grieve." The goal of this piece is to show the exact feelings and thoughts of someone going through mourning. "In Memoriam" unintentionally shows the five stages of grief with a final ending of acceptance as the text tries reconcile the feelings of complete and utter sorrow.
