Student Composers’ Association Concerts

Overview

In my senior year at the Jacobs School of Music, I served as the President of the Student Composers’ Association (SCA). The SCA is a registered 501c3 organization that is dedicated to creating opportunities for composers to present their music through collaborations to engage the community. The SCA also works to secure funding to bring in composers to give lectures to students at Jacobs.

As the President of the SCA for the 2021-2022 year, I personally directed three collaboration events as well as assisted with four additional events for a total of 70 students. Since the SCA only had six total officers (with myself included), I created a volunteering program so that other students could learn how collaboration events work and assist with them without the full time commitment. I also worked with Ari Schwartz (SCA Treasurer) to secure three grants for upcoming events in the 2021-2022 year. Finally, I created a Prospective Student Program where auditioning students can connect with current students to find out more information about studying at the Jacobs School of Music.

Overall, I had a wonderful time working with so many talented folks! Due to our recruiting efforts and volunteer program, the Student Composers’ Association nearly doubled in size for 2022-2023. My time at the SCA was incredibly valuable to me as I learned and enjoyed it so much!
